The Panamanian Association for the Advancement of Science (APANAC) held its 19th National Congress on Science and Technology, titled “Panama, Hub of Science”, from September 26 to 29, 2023. During this important event, a variety of research topics were addressed, and one of the highlights was the presentation by #TeamCOPEG, represented by Dr. Aidamalia Vargas, Research Scientist in the ARS unit. Dr. Vargas’s presentation focused on the development of “Real-Time Quantification of the tTA Gene in the Transgenic DR6 and DR7 Strains of the New World Screwworm Fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax).”
The main objective of the congress was to promote the exchange of experiences at both national and international levels, as well as to establish alliances and cooperative research, development, and innovation networks. Technological knowledge from around the world was also shared as part of the response to various global crises.
This initiative will drive the development of research projects that contribute to increasing national productivity, positioning Panama as a Regional Innovation Hub in areas such as health, agriculture, and digital technology. In doing so, the country continues to solidify its role as a cutting-edge leader in the Latin American region.
Once again, COPEG, as a world reference laboratory in the study of the New World Screwworm, remains at the forefront of technology. Thanks to projects like this, we are able to improve our production efficiency and quality, being the only facility of its kind in the world. This has a direct positive impact on the agricultural sector of Panama and the entire region.
We are proud to contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Panama, demonstrating the commitment and scientific excellence that define our international organization.
